Laurel Kupka joined the firm as an associate in 2011. She practices in the firm’s litigation group, primarily in the areas of family law, general litigation, municipal DUI and traffic law, and insurance defense.
Laurel received her Bachelor of Science in Journalism from the University of Kansas in December 2007 and graduated from the University of Kansas School of Law in May 2011. While an undergraduate, Laurel was a Watkins-Berger Scholar and member of the University Honors Program, graduating with University Honors. During law school, Laurel served on the staff and the editorial board of the Kansas Journal of Law & Public Policy. She also interned with the Honorable John W. Lungstrum, a federal judge presiding in the United States District Court for the District of Kansas, and volunteered at the Kansas Legal Services office in Topeka, Kansas.
Laurel advises clients on all areas of family law, helping clients with issues such as child custody, child support, property division and spousal support. She also represents both defendants and plaintiffs in personal injury cases arising from auto collisions and other accidents.
Laurel has been an assistant prosecutor for the City of Mission, Kansas, since 2012, and defends individuals charged with DUI and traffic-related offenses in municipalities other than Mission. She is actively involved in the area of creditor’s rights, assisting businesses and individuals in collecting consumer and commercial debts and representing secured and unsecured creditors in state court and in bankruptcy proceedings. Her practice in these particular areas of law has resulted in extensive bench trial experience.
