Jon W. Gilchrist is a principal in the firm, having practiced with the firm since 1988 in the areas of real estate, banking, estate planning, employee benefits and business law.
Jon advises clients on issues ranging from the day-to-day operations of a business to mergers, corporate reorganizations, and limited stock offerings. Jon frequently provides advice to clients who are starting new businesses including the structure and creation of the business entity. In his representation of banking and savings and loan institutions, Jon regularly advises clients with respect to loan transactions, document preparation, and foreclosure matters.

In addition, Jon advises clients with respect to their companies’ employee benefit plans, including the creation and documentation of the plans as well as the initial and ongoing qualification of the plans with the Internal Revenue Service.
Jon advises clients with their estate planning needs which may also include the preparation of wills and various types of trusts, Jon also handles the probate of estates in both Kansas and Missouri.

Jon received his undergraduate degree with distinction in Business Administration with a concentration in Computer Science from the University of Kansas where he was a member of Beta Gamma Sigma. Jon also obtained his law degree from the University of Kansas where he was a member of Phi Delta Phi. While in law school, Jon clerked for the Honorable Herbert W. Walton, Johnson County District Count of Kansas.

Jon is admitted to practice before the state courts of Kansas and Missouri, the United States District Courts for the District of Kansas and the Western District of Missouri and the United States Tax Court.

Jon is a member of the Kansas City, Johnson County, Kansas, Missouri and American Bar Associations. Jon is very active in local and state-wide civic and charitable activities. He is a past Chairman of the National Kidney Foundation of Kansas and Western Missouri and a former board member of the National Kidney Foundation of New York.
